Charlie, the Blue Heron

Charlie, the Blue Heron by Kyndra Hatch

February 2022

One time we were walking along the bay beach and there were these cast net fishermen wading in the water, looking for mullet. Right on the shoreline stood a tall Blue Heron. He wasn’t afraid of us. Just watched us as we passed, looking expectant.

“That’s Charlie,” one of the fishermen said. “He’s here every day. He’s waiting for one of our fish.”

I do believe Charlie had no problem taking a fish or two from their ice chest, lol.

Now, every time we see a Blue Heron, we say, “It’s Charlie!” Of if there is one wading in the lake by our swamp, “Charlie’s here!”

This one was hanging out on top of a pine tree and I was able to zoom in on him with my super awesome zoom. =D

Enjoy!
